Mia is home!

Mia arrived home last night, after successful heart surgery performed in the North of China. The Tomorrow Plan funded her surgery, which was 100% successful. It’s wonderful to see the change, she can run and play without struggling for every breath. We are so grateful to all those who have helped this precious little girl. The photos show her before and after surgery.

Josh received his second casts yesterday – sleeping through the whole process!
Joey on the other hand, was a different story. His first cast went on today and he was not impressed, but with lots of imaginative games he co-operated, and was soon back in the Unit impatiently waiting for his cast to dry, so he could be independent again!

13 Today!

Steven, from the Residential Unit, celebrated his 13th birthday today. After cake and gifts, he spent the rest of the afternoon assembling his new model car.

Latest Arrival - just 12 days old.

Thursday saw the arrival of our latest little girl, just 12 days old, who has one clubfoot. She appears to be otherwise very healthy and has very quickly settled into the Unit. She’s a little cutie.

Janie's turn

It was Janie’s turn to have her first casts on Wednesday. The Carers are calling it –time to get her special shoes on! It all went well, and she is very proud of her lovely red fibreglass cast. We use layers of fibreglass over the plaster cast so it will stand up the day to day treatment that a 3 year will dish out!

First child to be cast from the New Clubfoot Unit

Josh, the youngest child in the Clubfoot Unit, became the first child to be cast last Monday. He has settled in well over the past 2 weeks and was sleeping and feeding well after adapting to his new environment. He slept through the whole process. You will be able to follow the progress of his feet being corrected over the coming weeks.

Meet our new Club Foot Unit Coordinator

An Orphans Wish is excited to announce our new Club Foot Unit Coordinator - Stefanie ! We have found the absolute perfect fit for this position. Stefanie is an incredible mother to nine beautiful kids, for who have been adopted from China. Club foot casting using the Ponseti method comes second nature to Stefanie, as her two youngest sons have both received treatment for their club feet using this method. Stefanie has extensive knowledge in this procedure and its benefits to club foot children. Her professional relationships with the Ponseti doctors in the United States as well as with our medical staff in China, makes for a wonderful team for our new club foot unit. Stefanie also has one daughter adopted from Guilin, China where our unit is located and has that personal desire to help the children from her daughters orphanage.
